As I was reading in Greathouse, he quotes Wesley as having said,
God is both able and willing to sanctify now, there needs to be added one thing more – a divine evidence and conviction that He does it…If you seek it by faith, you may expect it as you are, then expect it now…Expect it by faith, expect it as you are, and expect it now!”
WOW! That is a non-subtle, in your face dose of encouraging promises. In the last few days it seems like all of us have been challenged while trying to keep up and with life, ministry, family, studies, etc. I do not know about the rest of you, but when I am juggling that many things, the progression of sanctification seems to come to a screeching hault as I find my fuse shorter, my irritability closer to the surface of my emotions, and my responses in those difficult things being anything but Christ-like. Talk about a distorted image…It can be downright ugly.
And then I read this and realize that it is in those situations, as well as the good, that God wants us to rely on Him to shine through us and give us the guidance of the Holy Spirit to know how to respond and how to cope.
I make this request not out of a selfish and impatient heart but out of the knowledge that it is God’s intent to supply all of our needs.
Lord I rely on You and trust that You will do what You say You will do…by faith.
And by the way…do It now, please.
